Pre-service Teaching Learning Pathway
Pathway Overview
This pathway focuses on pre-service teachers graduating with the tools to work effectively with multilingual learners and their families. The project offers incentives to obtain a state-approved ESL endorsement while in their University of Utah teacher licensure program and offers access to resources and advanced ESL trainings on evidence-based practices with MLs.

Training Opportunities
Provides $5,000 scholarships to preservice teachers enrolled in the University of Utah teacher licensure program to obtain their ESL endorsement with licensure. We award an average of 5 scholarships each year.
Eligibility Criteria
- Undergraduate students admitted to U’s Teacher Licensure program who agree to complete the U’s ESL endorsement with licensure and work with multilingual learners and families
Scholarship Benefits
- One-time award of $5,000 over 1-2 semesters to help cover a portion of tuition, mandatory fees, books, and supplies
Scholarship Application Deadlines
Applications are accepted over the academic year, but priority is given based on the following:
- Summer and/or Fall 2025 (Submitted on or before July 1, 2025)
- Priority given to early applications

APEX Advanced ESL Training Institutes
